Windows Mobile® 6 Update for the SoMo® 650

Socket added support for Windows Mobile 6 Classic on the SoMo 650 handheld computer, available as an option on new devices or as an upgrade to devices running Windows Mobile 5.0. Windows Mobile 6 Classic will bolster the productivity of SoMo 650 users with enhanced mobile messaging capabilities including HTML email support, Microsoft Exchange server search and hardware shortcuts.

Windows Mobile 6 Classic for the SoMo 650 is available in English, French, Italian, German, Spanish and Portuguese (Brazilian and Iberian). Socket will continue to offer the SoMo 650 with Windows Mobile 5.0, giving customers a choice of operating systems that best fit their needs.

Go Wi-Fi!® Cards Soon to Include Enhanced Wi-Fi® Companion™ Software

Coming Soon — The Go Wi-Fi! P300 and P500 WLAN cards will upgrade from Wi-Fi Companion to Enhanced Wi-Fi Companion software, providing a convenient and easy to use add-on WLAN solution with advanced business-level security. With Enhanced Wi-Fi Companion software, the Go Wi-Fi! P500 CompactFlash card is Cisco CCX 4.0 certified, while the P300 Secure Digital card provides CCX 4.0 functionality.

FlexGuard Silicone Covers for the SoMo 650

In April, Socket released FlexGuard silicone covers for the SoMo 650 handheld computer. The covers add durability to the SoMo 650 and is available in two versions: one for the SoMo alone and one that also protects a Socket CF bar code or RFID reader plugged into the device. Both versions fit a SoMo with a standard or extended battery. While the version for the SoMo and a plug-in card is available only in black, the SoMo-only version is available in black, blue or red.

Socket also offers a version of FlexGuard for the Motorola/Symbol MC50 combined with the SD Scan Card Series 3.

Retaining Bracket for the SoMo 650 and CF Scan Card Series 5

If you plan to always use the SoMo 650 with a CF Scan Card plugged in, you may be interested in a new accessory. The Retaining Bracket screws into the back of the SoMo and secures the CF Scan Card in place, helping to prevent loss or theft of the bar code scanner. Thin and light, the bracket adds practically no bulk or weight, so it won't slow you down.

Service Pack 2 for the SoMo 650

In May, Socket released a new service pack for the SoMo 650 handheld computer, which resolves several known issues, including:

• Problem with the IPL loader – the possibility existed to do a clean boot when the intent was a cold boot.
• Problem with the touch screen not being recognized – occasionally the touch screen was not recognized when the battery was low, the SoMo 650 had powered off automatically, and then the SoMo 650 was connected to an external power source.
• Problem that allowed the touch screen driver to be called while in a “Sleep” state.
• System lock up issue that occurred when a CF Memory card when inserted and removed quickly.
• System lock up issue that occurred when a the SoMo 650 is powered off and back on quickly.
• Intermittent issue where the SoMo 650 did not recover after a reset and required a reboot.

SocketScan Expands Support for the Symbol MC70 and the HP iPAQ 110 and 210

If you are using the Motorola/Symbol MC70 or the HP iPAQ 110 or 210, now you can use your device with any Socket bar code, RFID or magnetic stripe reading product. SocketScan software for Windows Mobile/CE has just been updated to expand hardware compatibility with these devices, including compatibility with the Cordless Hand Scanner (CHS) Series 7 and the Cordless Ring Scanner (CRS) Series 9.
