Socket Reaches 10,000 Unit Sales Mark with SoMo 650

Adoption Continues to Grow in Key Vertical Markets

Newark, Calif. ?nbsp;11/5/2008

Socket Mobile, Inc. (NASDAQ: SCKT), an innovative provider of mobile productivity solutions, today announced growing adoption of its SoMo 650 handheld computer in a wide range of vertical market applications including bedside point-of-care, patient monitoring, tableside ordering, point-of-sale transactions and inventory and asset management.

Over 10,000 SoMo 650 handheld computers have been sold since the first full production units began shipping in September of 2007.

The Socket SoMo 650 handheld computer is gaining market traction in key verticals, including healthcare, retail, hospitality and the public sector. Highlighting this adoption was a 50% sequential growth rate in the past two quarters, which helped drive sales to a record 3,000 SoMo handheld computers in the most recent quarter.

Socket designed the SoMo 650 as a durable handheld computer for business use with expansion options being a key feature. Customers can optimize the SoMo configuration for their specific needs with data collection accessories like bar code, RFID or magnetic stripe readers. In addition, cordless peripherals can be connected via Socket’s award winning Bluetooth® software. The SoMo also comes with Wireless LAN software that makes it particularly appealing to corporate users who need seamless roaming and who have a Cisco-based infrastructure, as the SoMo is Cisco Compatible Extensions (CCX) 4.0 compliant.

Solutions have been tailored to specific business applications by more than 200 vertical industry partners. The SoMo ships with either Windows Mobile 5.0 or 6 operating systems, offers multiple languages, and has an extended availability period of 3 to 5 years. Socket recently announced a SoMo 650 Rx antimicrobial model for the healthcare industry and SoMo 650 DX model without wireless for security-sensitive applications.

"As the company moves toward 2009, momentum is building for the SoMo as the demand for mobile solutions that bring efficiencies continue to increase, especially in these difficult economic times," said Kevin Mills, president and CEO of Socket.  "Socket is continuing to work closely with its channel and Vertical Industry Partners to solve customer needs and service the demand for effective and productive mobile solutions."

"Device durability and reliability is a top of mind issue among organizations deploying field mobility applications today," said David Krebs, Mobile and Wireless Practice Director of VDC Research. "Products like the SoMo 650 are filling a void in the market and are delivering robust, value-based enterprise mobile computing solutions."
