Add RS-232 Serial I/O Ports to Your Product
The mobilityIC™ Dual Port or mDP (formerly HIS3) is a single chip implementation of two serial ports interfaced to the CompactFlash (CF) or PC Card bus. A single or dual serial port peripheral can be built with an mDP, a crystal, an EEPROM and two serial transceiver chips. Such a design offers PC Card/CF compliance, high performance, low power consumption and minimum component count.
The mDP uses a 16C550 compliant core with 512-byte FIFOs in expanded mode. The mDP connects directly to a serial EEPROM to store nonvolatile information which includes the PC Card/CF tuples and initial configuration information. Attribute memory consists of a 248-byte Card Information Structure (CIS), a 16-byte initialization area, and 15 Configuration Registers.
The mDP can be designed into a range of devices:
Powerful and Flexible Serial I/O Features
mobilityIC Dual Port ASIC P/N
mobilityIC Dual Port (10x10x1 mm TQFP-80)
2060-00008
Add RS-232 Serial I/O Ports with the mDP Dev Kit
Use the mobilityIC Dual Port (mDP) Dev Kit to add one or two serial I/O ports into your product. With the mDP Dev Kit, you utilize a development platform, technical documents and support tools to integrate the mDP ASIC into your device.
Dev Kit Contents
mDP Development Board – has a fully operational 8-bit Compact-Flash interface. Tuples included with the Dev Kit can be downloaded to the on-board serial EEPROM to verify product performance. Optional Module Mode Daughter Board
When the Module Mode board is mated to the main Development Board, the system demonstrates how two mDP chips can operate as four independent UARTs. When the Module Mode board is used in an embedded system, the mDP chip interfaces with the local bus of the embedded system and provides two UARTs.
