FAQ

• How do I reset my barcode reader?

  There are two types of reset – Pairing Reset and Factory Reset.

  A Pairing Reset removes the existing pairing from the memory of the barcode reader, making it discoverable to other host devices, but leaves any other configuration settings in place.

  To perform a Pairing Reset (most readers):

  1. Remove the barcode reader from Bluetooth settings of your host device.
  2. Power on the reader.
  3. Press and hold the scan button and power button simultaneously until the barcode reader plays 3 tones and shuts down.

  This video walks you through the process using a 700 Series barcode reader. The 600 & 800 Series can be reset using the same sequence of button presses.

  To perform a Pairing Reset for the DS930, XS930, and XG930, follow Steps 1 & 2 above, then:

  3. Print and scan the barcode below to reset the reader to factory defaults.
     

  

  A Factory Reset puts the barcode reader back to its original factory default settings, making it discoverable to other host devices, but also removes any and all configuration settings that may have been applied.

  To perform a Factory Reset:

  1. Power on the reader
  2. Press and hold the scan button
  3. While continuing to hold the scan button, press and release the power button.
  4. Keep holding the scan button (approx. 15 seconds) until the reader beeps, at which point release the scan button.
  5. The reader will play 5 tones and shut down.

  This video walks you through the process using a 700 Series barcode reader. The 600 & 800 Series can be reset using the same sequence of button presses.

• When I read a barcode or NFC tag, no data appears on my screen.

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  Although your device says it's connected, you are in the wrong mode.		If you are scanning into an application such as Shopify, Square or Zettle by Paypal, restart the host device and pair your reader to your host in Application Mode using Socket Mobile Companion App  (AU, EMEA, UK). If you are scanning into an application such as Notes, MS Word, MS Excel or you are scanning into a text field in a web browser, please follow these instructions  (AU, EMEA, UK).

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  The barcode reader is too close / too far from the barcode or the scanning angle is incorrect.		Practice scanning barcodes from different distances and angles. Reading distance may vary according to barcode size and aspect ratio, symbology, label type and reading angle.

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  The barcode is either incorrectly formatted, damaged or badly printed.		Try to scan a barcode that is correctly formatted, clearly printed and of good quality.

   

  ---

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  The symbology function is disabled or not supported by the barcode reader.		Enable symbology. If you don't know the barcode symbology, please contact us at support@socketmobile.com.

  Possible Cause:		Solution:
  No application is activated to receive scanned data.		Open an application (e.g. Notes). Position the cursor where you wish to enter data and try scanning again.

   

• My reader isn’t found when I try and pair it in Companion.

  1. Power on the reader
  2. Press and hold the scan button and power button simultaneously until the barcode reader plays 3 tones and shuts down.

  3. Open Settings > Bluetooth in your Apple or Android device.
  4. Find your data reader and select "Forget/Delete/Unpair This Device" to remove the reader.
  5. Power the reader back on and attempt pairing again.

• How do I pair my Socket Mobile reader in Basic Keyboard Mode (HID)?

  Basic Keyboard Mode Set-Up Instructions

  The barcodes contained within the set-up instructions can be read directly from the screen. However, if you have a laser engine model (S730, D730, DS900, XS930, XG930, 7Mi, 7Pi) you will need to print the barcodes.

  1. If the Socket Mobile reader has previously been paired to your host device, please remove it from Bluetooth settings.
  2. Turn on the Socket Mobile reader.
  3. Scan the Factory Reset barcode below, the reader will shut down.
     

  4. Turn the reader back on and scan the Basic Keyboard Mode barcode below.
     

  5. Open Bluetooth settings in the host device.
  6. When the Socket reader is discovered, tap it on the screen to start the pairing process.
  7. After a successful pairing, the connection status will change to "Connected", the blue light will turn solid and the reader will emit a single beep.

  You are now connected in Basic Keyboard Mode

  Remove battery compartment screws and swap out the battery. New batteries  (AU, EMEA, UK) can be purchased from Socket Mobile.
